The GR-251 High Performance Multi-Reader is an environmentally rugged, hand held scanner designed to quickly read Trovan, HomeAgain, Digital Angel, AVID unencrypted, AVID encrypted, and all brands of ISO FDX-B RFID (radio frequency identification) transponders at optimum distances.  Read range and read area coverage have been maximized to quickly locate and accurately read RFID transponders, even under adverse conditions.

Working conditions in industrial, commercial, wildlife, and animal shelter environments are often harsh, with RFID readers routinely subjected to moisture, rain, sea spray, salt air, caustic chemicals, dust, dirt, sand, and other elements detrimental to electronics.  The GR-251 Reader is sealed against such elements and is designed to withstand accidental drops onto the floor.  The handle and push button trigger have a rugged, ergonomic design that minimizes losing grasp on the reader, while a lanyard or wrist strap can be fastened to a hole in the handle.

A fully charged reader will read approximately 3,000 transponders (average scan time of 1-2 seconds).  The LCD will display a “Low Battery” message when the 12 volt NiMH battery needs to be recharged.  The battery can then be recharged using the battery charger supplied with the reader, or it can be easily replaced with a fully charged battery pack.  An optional adapter is available to charge battery packs when removed from the reader.

The GR-251 High Performance Multi-Reader has additional capabilities that are implemented via its RS-232 interface or optional Blue Tooth interface.  Up to 8,128 transponder ID number readings, automatically stamped with date & time, can be stored in memory into one or more of 254 separate groups, called lots.  In addition to saving transponder readings that can be uploaded to a computer, the GR-251 High Performance Multi-Reader can search for transponder numbers previously stored in one of the 254 lots.  When a match is found, an audible tone is emitted, and the LCD displays a “match” message.  The transponder ID number just “matched” can optionally be stored into a keylot for subsequent uploading to a computer via the RS-232 interface.
